Wonder if there's any chance they'd do a complete downloadable edition after updates have stopped, either for all subs or as an added fee. If they're not updating the 4E material, and I'm not playing Next, I'd kinda rather not pay a sub when I could just get it as a product.

Please wait.. Please verify your identity before continuing..

Glad that they're not dumping it though, honestly don't think I could manage without DDI. I don't think you should expect any kind of development time to be spent on any of the DDI tools for 4e. I think if people are still paying subscriptions they can at least justify some development time. Given that it's been about 2 years without any significant developer time being spent on any of the DDI tools, I think they're not going to justify it.

If they make a downloadable, they lose the subscribers.

I think they're going to lose the revenue stream anyway. WOTC however has not seemed to operate in that manner. Last edited by Rainflake: Wonder if there's any chance they'd do a complete downloadable edition after updates have stopped, either for all subs or as an added fee. I would be paying for a dependable service, with as little down-time as possible, and where my characters are stored safely and accessibly from wherever I am.

Why would they cut off a revenue stream? It's a fair point, but I don't think there are only two options: The question for them is maximizing revenue. They are facing a large loss of revenue from a drop-off in subscriptions when they officially transition from 4 to Dungeons And Dragons Insider Promo Code, regardless. Right now they don't need to add new tools because they are adding content and that keeps you paying. Thus the question is: How many MORE can you keep by adding more devs, and thus, does it make financial sense?

If you can earn more money by having X more subscriptions minus the cost of the dev's time, then you can justify it. Its probable that they've had a plan for what to do with that revenue stream since 5e was announced. Or they might package DDI 4e as a single download that costs you ten bucks click here whatever.

I think they're going to lose the revenue stream anyway. They are just going to try and do whatever they can to maintain as much of that source possible. How many MORE can you keep by adding more devs. This is not the relevant question. The relevant question is how best to allocate their resources, including developers. If they would make more money by allocating to 5E than to 4E, they'll do that.

Making a downloadable version of a browser based tool is very low on Dev time. Also, there has been a downloadable character builder in the past, iirc, so it might just be a matter of updating things. DDI is awesome, but they need to move it off of Silverlight, like, yesterday. It's so stupid to have it in a format that is inaccessible to a large chunk of the tablet market and Linux without hassles. Also, they need to make it a lot cheaper, if not free.

I firmly believe that one of the reasons Pathfinder has done so well is that they have basically made all their content available on d20pfsrd.

The world is about open-source and inclusion now. Giving people a chance.

Other sites like the archives of netyhs can post the material with the correct names without issue. Their shit doesn't render right on Android unless you force the desktop mode. Pure guess, but I expect it'll depend on whether they continue delivering Dragon and Dungeon via online subscription or not.

I don't think they've decided one way or another yet. I'm also fairly certain that if they do go that route, it'll be a separate subscription from the 4e stuff assuming that stays up after 5e is released.

Click latter never answered email inquiries about the problems I had with the tutorial so I never got a chance to learn it let alone why I could never enter another's game. The question for them is maximizing revenue. They are facing a large loss of revenue from a drop-off in subscriptions when they officially transition from 4 to 5, regardless.

They're not updating DDI 4th after March When they switched from 3. E-tools was the progenitor to DDi. Maybe they'll do the same thing, sell of the generators a software developer.

That would be nice, to have someone else in charge; WotC has not been very competent with their 4E online tools. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy. Log in or sign up in seconds.
